What Movie Would Be Good To Show A Spanish I Class?

5 comments so far (is that a lot?)

I teach a Spanish 1 level class and would like to show a movie to the class for a couple days before they go away for Spring break since they are getting antsy and not working well from the text book. They don’t know a lot of Spanish yet, so I don’t want to show something that’s all in Spanish. Any suggestions on a movie in English but with a Spanish/Hispanic theme to it?
Thanks for your help!

    Spanglish
    most def.
it has Adam Sandler (funny) and Paz Vega (beautiful) and its about family and culture clash (kind of)
cute, light-hearted, funny, a good way to end the week

Show them “Marcelino Pan y Vino”.
Its an old Spanish film that is about a young boy raised by 12 friars, and there are conflicts with the mayor of the town. The boy dies an innocent Saint.
The film sold in the US should have English subtitles.
Its a good film, lots of Spanish speaking, appropriate for kids, and shows a lot of Spanish culture in it.
Its a Spanish Class they have to get used to hearing fluent Spanish otherwise your not helping them much. Besides the film [especially the DVD] has subtitles.

Evita is pretty cool, but I have to agree with Woot. They’d probably like Spanglish A LOT better. Just check the rating and make sure it’s age appropiate.
