What Is The Process To Turn A Movie Into A Play?

In this group, we are looking at show ideas and some movies have come up, but the problem is, that i dont know where to get the script/rights for it. Does anyone know where i can get the rights/script for movies, or how to do it? or who i should contact. any information would be helpful. BTW, if you need a specific movie, we are thinking about Newsies or Across the Universe.

It depends on the film, for example the rights to a recent film try the producer or distributer such as Warner Brothers (Time Warner), Columbia (Sony) or Fox (Newscorp). For older films it very tricky – Time Warnwer owns old MGM and Warner films, Universal (General Electric) owns the rights to Universal Films and Pre-1948 Paramount films.
Newsies belongs to Disney and the probably won’t give permission since they turn films into plays themselves.
Accross the Universe is Colombia/Sony, it might be dificult as well since it was directed by theater icon Julie Taymor who turned The Lion King into a play. Good Luck.
