What Cartoon Movie Has Small Animals That Go On An Adventure And They Build A Flying Machine At One Point?

The movie is about 10-20 years old probably and these animals are always supposed to stay away from the feared road, but they cross it at one point in the movie and one of the animals falls behind and nearly gets hit as the car drives over him. The movie starts out with them at this big tree that I think the older teacher like animal guy lives and he has schematics for the flying machine that they build later in the movie to fly home.

    i think you might be thinking about the rescuers? maybe?is the flying machine made from a tin of pilchards (empty or course)
