1. the dialogue at the beginning when the boys are at the petrol station/in the market is swapped so in the 1996 version the capulets have the lines of the montagues and vice versa for a few lines
2. in the 1996 version you see romeo going to buy the poison whereas in 1968 version he just pulls it out as he already has it.
3. in the 1996 film juliet wakes up just as romeo is taking the poison, but in the 1968 version she wakes up after he is dead.
4. lurhmann cuts a lot of the original dialogue, and adds some lines in, i’m sure you’d be able to find these on the internet
5. in the lurhmann version, the feud is between corporate familes and their businesses, not just the families.
6. 1996 version lurhmann has named characters, like romeo and juliets parents, and paris, who is now ‘dave paris’
hope this helps!
Both versions are done with the original script, however Romeo + Juliet is much more modern with guns and cars and all that good stuff and has a few changes such as scene. The 1968 verison is done exactly how Shakespeare originally intended it to be done. I personally like the 1968 verison better because Romeo and Juliet are the ages that is said in the story (Juliet is in fact 14) where as they use adults who look like teenagers in R+J.
1. The first one was not in California. it was set in the real town of Verona.
2. The second one refered to their guns as Swords
3. The first one they actually used Shakespearean accents.
4. Olivia Hussey was about 16 so she was closer to the age Juliet really was.
5. I liked the death scene in the second one better, Romeo realized she was alive too late. That was sad.
1) Dicaprio’s is in modern day.
2) Dicaprio’s ending is actually sadder.
3) The newer one is comical a some points but way serious at others.
4) The old one is actually kids acting.
5) The older one is more respected as being the best film adaptation.
1. The 1996 version was updated which means that they used guns instead of like knives.
2. The settings are different. For example, the balcony scene and the death of Juliet.
3. Yeah, that’s all I can think of. :/
Sorry.
Dicaprio.
-Used Guns, Knives, Mercutio was black, Romeo smoked, had t.v’s, the ending in the vault, the Prince was black also.
The new version has GUNS in it–what tha heck??
It’s kind of corny, it’s all corny
It’s like dumb, it’s all dumb
A guy dreses like a women, with make-up
The new version is not worth your while
They used guns instead of swords and knifes.
Paris does not die.
And it is set on Verona beach instead of Verona.
1) Dicaprio is gay
2) His Juliet was way hotter
3) All the people are dead in the first one.
i only have one dicaprio is in it which is awesome because hes the best actor ever
