If There Was A Play Or Movie About The Three Musketeers, What Role Would You Want To Play And Why?

I answered this question in the movie section – and I answered D’Artagnan, partly because I love the character and feel like I “get” him as well as because I am playing him in the production of “The Three Musketeers” I’m currently in.
So, this time, I will answer as if this was for a film and I had to play a role of appropriate gender.
Although Milady de WInter is an awesome character, I think I would like to play Constance Bonacieux – as long as she was written like the character from the book – not a watered down Hollywood damsel-in-distress character.
Constance was very much D’Artagnan’s counterpart in the book. She was bold and brave and ready to die for her queen, but she was limited by the gender roles of the time. She swears her loyalty to the queen, she’s deeply involved in the court intrigue, she calls her husband a woman at one point for being cowardly, and she threatens D’Artagnan fiercely of what she would do if she ever found out he betrayed her. This is no weak ingenue. I think it would be a tremendous challenge to find the right balance with this character – not to make her too tough, but not too soft either.
