1. Open your Windows Movie Maker file. 2. Click “File”. 3. Click “Save movie file”
In the window that pops up, it shows you different ways to publish (export) your movie. You can export the video file to your computer, burn it to a disc, send it via mail, share it to web and write it to your DV cam. I am going to explain step by step the export to computer and I am also going to say you to not click the Web option.
Select the first option. Click next. Write down a name you like for your movie and then select when you want the file to be saved. It is better to save it to folder you remember and you’ll find easily, like the Desktop one. In the next step you’ll select the format it will be exported to. The ones that available are Windows Media Video (file.wmv) and AVI (Well, ok i don’t know what each letter stands for there.) You have a lot of options there. In the beggining you’ll might see only one available which will say something like “Best quality in my computer.” That setting is exporting the file to WMV, in a quality that suits your graphic and CPU card, or in plain english, a format that your computer plays without any problem. Now, if you want to see more options for export, click the blue underlined phrase saying “show more options”. Now you got two more options. The second one is saving the file to a particular size you want. Lower sizes refer to lower quality (in both footage and audio). The third and final has multiple options. For example Pocket PC, High Quality, Widescreen, AVI (that’s also another format – .avi – which it is also recognizable by Windows Media Player.) and such in multiple rates (Kbps). When you select the appropriate format that suits you, and look down to the window, you’ll see the info of your video file such as the format, file resoloution and size. Feel free to experience different file formats and options. (If you get experience from that, you’ll know which format is the best for upload to the web. Now by hiting next, your movie file will be saved to your disk, to the folder you chose. There is a last option that if you want, when you click finish, you watch the file to Windows Media Player.
Now you have a file supported from the Windows Media Player, which can be uploaded anywhere, YouTube, Facebook, Dailymotion, anywhere…
If you are using the windows vista version of windows movie maker, you should click “file”, and then click “publish movie file” (or something like that) and then choose this computer. Just follow the steps and save it.
If you are using windows XP click “file” and click “save movie”
