That means you need to join SAG and to a lesser degree, AFTRA, though it seems like more TV shows are starting up that fall under AFTRA's domain. Joining AFTRA is simple; just pay them $1300 with biannual dues of $63, unless you make a lot of money. SAG is more difficult. You can join SAG with three background waivers, you can get Taft-Hartley'd (not going to happen if you're just an extra), or you can join after one year of membership in AFTRA with at least one principal role in that union. Initiation fees for SAG are around $2300.
